What inspires and challenges composers when they are creating new music?
We find out in this intimate and unique event, as we are joined by composers Brian Noyes and Andrew Wilson-Dickson for Welsh premieres of two of their standout piano trios.
Premiered in 2015 in the USA and with a performance at Carnegie Hall under its belt, Piano Trio Op.38 is one of Noyes’ most recent works. Inspired by time spent with Sir Peter Maxwell Davies in 2015, it’s a dramatic, changing work evolving from a gentle opening to a dramatic climax.
Wilson-Dickon’s Piano Trio No.2 comes from much earlier in his career (1979), but has never been performed in Wales before. Written at a time when the composer was inspired by ancient British bell-ringing techniques, it’s a high-energy piece and an offshoot of his 1980 chamber opera ‘errors’.
Deborah Keyser, Director of Ty Cerdd, will interview both composers before the performances, and you get a chance to ask your questions once you’ve heard the pieces.
Our performers are pianist Robin Green, violinist Sara Trickey and cellist Rosie Biss.
