2010: Resonabilis ensemble (supper event)
Sunday 5 September 2010 · Sul 5 Medi 2010, 6pm
ST Donats Arts Centre, St Donats Castle, CF61 1WF
with Siân Cameron (mezzo-soprano)
& Philip Gross (poet)
The Festival opens with a celebratory evening where Wales meets Estonia in music, poetry and authentic Estonian cuisine.
Eclectic ensemble Resonabilis play new music centred on an ancient instrument – the Estonian kannel, a sort of chromatic table-harp. The musical programme includes works by Russian and Estonian composers; a new work by Helena Tulve; and, of course, a short piece by the figurehead of this year’s Festival, Arvo Pärt. The music will be interwoven with readings by leading poet Philip Gross, winner of the 2009 TS Eliot prize; and during the extended interval, a supper including traditional Estonian cuisine will be served in the spectacular setting of the Arts Centre’s Glass Room, with its panoramic sea views.
The evening begins with a short drinks reception and a welcome from this year’s Festival Patron, HE Aino Lepik von Wirén, Estonian Ambassador.
Note: there will be a supper interval of one hour; event end time, c9pm.
Dathliad a man cyfarfod – i Gymru ac Estonia, i farddoniaeth a cherddoriaeth ac i’r gwaith diweddaraf wedi’i ganu ar offeryn hynafol.
