Peter Reynolds Composers Studio

Applications now open: 2022 Peter Reynolds Composers Studio

Deadline for applications: Wednesday 18th May 2022

Run by the Vale of Glamorgan Festival, the Peter Reynolds Composers Studio (PRCS) is a week-long residency for six emerging composers, with mentoring from Course Director Rob Fokkens and Festival Artistic Director John Metcalf.

In addition, aspiring music-makers will receive seminars and one-to-one tutorials with renowned composers and other industry practitioners associated with the festival, entry to all festival events, composition workshopping, and two composition play-through and recording opportunities: with the multi-award winning Carducci String Quartet and the double grammy nominated Sandbox Percussion.

The course is run in partnership with Cardiff University School of Music, with support from Arts Council Wales.

“The advice I received has had a traceable, positive impact on my work. I left feeling inspired, knowing what to work on, and wanting to be better at my craft.”

“Excellent! This is an exceptionally run course. It is well balanced between one-to-one sessions, workshops, talks, and concerts. The small number of participants means we all get equal opportunities and helps create a close social atmosphere. We were clearly a valued part of the VOG Festival and it was exciting to spend time not only with composers and performers but also the festival directors and sponsors. The music making at the VOG Festival and as part of PRCS is of the highest standard – the performers we got to work with were of world class calibre and the concerts we attended could not have been more inspiring. This was one of the most positive experiences I have had as a composer.”

“The PRCS was a well-thought through and incredibly beneficial course. The combination of performances, concerts, workshops and one-to-ones made the experience really rewarding (and good value for money compared to other festival development programmes)”.

“Taking part in the Studio granted me access to networks that ultimately allowed me to sustain myself as a professional composer. As a result I was commissioned to write two new pieces.”
