We’re taking over Chapter Arts Centre’s Stiwdio, not for a concert, but a sound installation lasting more than six hours. Veils and Vesper is one of our featured composer John Luther Adams’ most ambitious works, something you can dip in and out of and hear from different perspectives as it evolves over time.
Adams has said Veils and Vesper is simultaneously his “most mathematical” and “most sensuous” piece. It incorporates ‘pink noise’, which commonly occurs in nature, and ‘harmonic prisms’ tuned to prime number harmonics.
Listening to it is a meditative experience. And if you’re planning to stay for a while, don’t worry – Adams says it’s fine to bring a book.
