On Sale day

It’s finally here; the on sale date for the 2022 Vale of Glamorgan Festival.

This is a programme of events that has been in the pipeline long before I joined the Festival as Producer. John Metcalf, our Artistic Director, has been quietly and calmly forming and re-forming these plans through a period of uncertainty and, since joining in October, I’ve been putting the final details in place with composers, artists and venues.

There have been trials and there have been successes, and I have been on a VERY steep learning curve. I am a relative novice in the new music scene (my background is in opera), I had no idea how to create a video for social media and I haven’t written a press release since graduating from college a (good) few years ago!

Whilst I have really enjoyed expanding my skill-set, what I’m really looking forward to is immersing myself in the new sounds and experiences that the 2022 Festival will open up for me. I’m looking forward to falling in love with works I’ve never heard before. To meeting the lovely guys from Sandbox face-to-face, after only seeing them on a Zoom screen up till now. To be in the room for those premieres, like PRCS alumnus David Roche’s world premiere Waves of Love and to hear the amazing Carducci Quartet bring us the UK premiere of John Luther Adams’  Lines made by Walking”. To at the start of, what could be, new performance and commissioning partnerships. And to witness the next generation of composers emerge from our Peter Reynolds Composers Studio. There aren’t many jobs that can provide all that, and I’m glad to have one of them. And whilst I’m likely to need about a month off when 1 October comes, I’m going to immerse myself in, and enjoy, every moment of it.

What would make this experience even better is to share it with you all, whether you’re an established Festival friend who has supported us through thick and thin, or first time friends who, like me, are excited to try new experiences and start a journey through contemporary music. So have a look at our programme, book your tickets via TicketSource and RWCMD Box Office, and I look forward to meeting you all in September.

Kath,

Festival Producer (and old dog learning new tricks)
