…to the 2013 Vale of Glamorgan Festival
Tickets are now on sale for this year’s festival which runs from Thursday 9 – Saturday 18 May 2013. We’re looking forward to a great fortnight of music-making which includes four world premieres and an international line up of artists from Mexico, Lithuania, Estonia, France and, of course, the UK.
The programme will be a mixture of day and evening concerts plus talks and discussions designed to give audiences the opportunity to hear directly from the composers themselves and discover the stories and inspiration behind the pieces being performed.
Highlights include:
- 50th birthday celebrations for Graham Fitkin who joins us for the world premiere of a new work
- The music of award winning American Sebastian Currier who will also be joining us and talking about his work
- A return visit by the Estonian vocal group Vox Clamantis (in Penarth and Ewenny)
- World premieres of works by Aaron Kernis, Galina Grigorieva, Festival Director John Metcalf and the first public performance of a new percussion concerto by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales’s Composer in Residence, Mark Bowden.
Events will take place at a blend of formal and informal, ancient and modern venues including concert halls, studios and churches – each chosen to offer an ideal setting to hear the pieces of music performed. We return to old favourites, St Donats Arts Centre, Ewenny Priory, Fonmon Castle, BBC Hoddinott Hall, RWCMD as well as taking concerts for the first time to All Saints Church, Cowbridge and the Washington Gallery in Penarth.
